Travelogue Concludes - Windseeker Motor Coach SOLD

In November 2016, we concluded the fifth and final year of this travelogue or 'blog' (linked below) chronicling our travels in our luxury motor coach. We had spent the last five years cruising around these great United States of America in a variety of different RV's, as we visited many interesting destinations, towing our sailboat, a beautiful Catalina 22 MkII (below right), and chasing the warm winds in search of new sailing adventures. We hope you enjoyed traveling along around the country with us online. Our complete itinerary for the entire 5 years, traveling in our various motorhomes and most recently with the Tiffin Allegro Bus is linked below. We finally decided to sell the Tiffin Allegro Bus in the spring of 2017.

Random Quote of the day: (see all quotes here)

  • ... Time on the water is not deducted from your lifespan.
  • ... We cannot direct the winds... but we can adjust the sails.
  • ... A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had but not preserved except in memory.
  • ... Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailor's warning.
  • ... Religion is sitting in church thinking about sailing. Spirituality is sitting in a sailboat, thinking about God.
  • ... A bad day sailing is better than a good day at work.
  • ... Age is an issue of mind over matter... if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
  • ... Don't worry about old age; it doesn't last.
  • ... Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
  • ... Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. It's never too late to have a happy childhood!
  • ... Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.
  • ... Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.
  • ... Not all who wander are lost. We can't be lost because we don't care where we're going!

Looking back, a bit of history.... after attending the Portland RV Show in March 2014, we seized a golden opportunity to trade in our superb Country Coach and upgrade to our dream coach, the Allegro Bus 43QRP, a truly magnificent 43 foot diesel pusher which was built by Tiffin Motorhomes, and which we dubbed Windseeker III. You can read all about this decision and why we upgraded from our Country Coach, and see a lot more photos inside and out on the extensive Windseeker homepage.

Our shakedown cruise in the new coach in the spring and summer of 2014 included sailing some of our most favorite northwest locations like Fernridge Lake, OR, Flathead Lake, MT, and Lake Coeur d'Alene, ID all the while sailing the Anne Marie, our beautiful Catalina 22 sailboat. In Sept. 2014 we returned home via Boise, ID, and parked the coach in storage in Troutdale, Oregon for the fall season to spend time in our beautiful new home located just across the river in Vancouver, WA.

The 2015 Windseeker National US Tour took us to California, Arizona, Texas, Alabama, and Florida on the winter leg. In spring the grand tour continued as we meandered up the east coast, enroute to extended summer sailing sojourns at Lake George, NY, and the spectacular Thousand Islands region of Canada's St. Lawrence Seaway. In the fall we made numerous stops including Boston & Cape Cod, Newport R.I., Long Island NY, Philadelphia, Asheville and Atlanta before returning to Florida again for winter.

The 2016 Windseeker Eastern US & Canada Tour began with us spending the entire winter enjoying the great sailing at Lake Monroe in central Florida, living at the beautiful Wekiva Falls RV Resort. On April 11, we started the trek north, our first stop at Lake Murray, SC, for some spring sailing. In May we stopped at Charleston, Nashville and Lexington. Next we continued north to sail on Canada's Lake Simcoe, Lake Muskoka and Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. In September we returned to the incomparable 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence Seaway to conclude another fabulous summer sailing and boating season. To augment our lake explorations in 2016 we also acquired the neat little C-Dory motorboat, pictured at the right. We each towed a boat for the summer. It timed out perfectly as we sold the C-Dory just as we left New York State on Sept 28, 2016.

We bid a fond adieu to the Thousand Islands Sept. 28 and headed west on our way back home, concluding our 2016 fall itinerary. We slowly made our way westward back through Lexington, KY again, then on to Louisville and St Louis where we put the sailboat in storage. Then we headed across country via OK, TX, NM, AZ, NV, CA, and then north, back home to Vancouver, WA near Portland, OR. We visited some friends enroute arriving home Nov. 15, to conclude the Windseeker 2016 Travel Tour. We settled in for the fall and winter at our beautiful home in Vancouver, Washington.

In the spring of 2017, having concluded the Windseeker USA National Tour, we finally made the tough decision to sell our Tiffin Allegro Bus. As a review of the past couple years, I have put together a page of highlights (and some 'low'lights) over the past couple years. We spent some time at home in Vancouver, WA as we contemplated our next move. Our sailboat, the Anne Marie, was happy to be back in the water for spring and summer at our local marina, Steamboat Landing, on the Columbia River, just a few minutes from our home. And we've added a 1980 MGB Roadster to our stable. "The one with the most toys wins". For more about our MGB and our summer adventures, please visit our special MGB Adventure website

Photo Galleries of our Travels

This is a broader collection of photos from our travels in the Windseeker over the past few years. It serves as a photo supplement to the travelogue which is more of a narrative journal than a photographic one. Some of the more photogenic stops on our past trips warrant separate photo collections in the gallery... like Hearst Castle, Glacier Nat'l Park, Sabino Canyon, Old Tucson & Sedona AZ, and Canada's spectacular Thousand Islands. For more sensational photos like these and the ones at the right of the Windseeker by Mount Shasta in California, and along the Clark Fork River in Idaho, see the drop down menu at the bottom of the list below...

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes in to us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.  (John Wayne)

Ship's Log for the Anne Marie, Catalina 22 Mark II - update 10/18/16

We tow the Anne Marie behind our beautiful coach or in caravan behind our Chevy Suburban as we visit lakes all around the country. Our motto: "You cannot discover new waters unless you have the courage to step and unstep your mast." (more sailing quotes here) This ship's log or journal notes the sailing conditions, boat launch, marinas and mooring options, as well as other sailors we encounter in our adventures along the way. You can also visit the Anne Marie's sailing website.
