Osprey Point RV Resort - Lakeside OR - Sept 4-9, 2024
Osprey Point RV Resort is located right the shores of Tenmile Lake in Lakeside OR over near the Oregon Coast and south of Florence. It is a decent enough RV Park, level gravel sites, full hookups and excellent access to Tenmile Lake, a marvelous large lake, superb for pontoon boating. They have their own launch ramp, boat slips, and a nice little bar and cafe where you can eat and enjoy your favorite beverages. We give it 8 out of 10 (including lake access capabilities) and would stay here again if visiting with our pontoon boat.
Darlings Marina & RV Resort - Florence, OR - July 24-28, 2024
This is a darling little RV Resort located right on the shores of Silcoos Lake, near the Oregon Coast on the south end of Florence, OR. Silcoos Lake is a large lake which we wanted to explore with our pontoon boat. Boating went well although it is a pretty windy place and would probably be better for sailing. The RV par is adequate, not luxurious, but reasonably priced and situated just off Silcoos Lake. Darlings also has a marvelous lakefront cafe with some of the best barbeque brisket and pulled pork we have had anywhere. We give it 7 out of 10 (including lake access capabilities) and would stay here again if visiting with our pontoon boat.
Issaquah Village RV Park - Issaquah, WA - April 1-4, 2023
Issaquah Village RV Park is a convenient RV Park to stay in when visiting Seattle. Located just a few miles west right off I-90 it is an easy commute into the city. We stayed here to visit to see a favorite jazz artist. It's 3 hours from our home in Vancouver. We have also stayed at Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell, WA, which is actually a nicer park but not quite as direct a shot into downtown Seattle. Issaquah Village RV Park is a bit noisy next to I-90 freeway but it has nice enough spaces with level pads and full hookups. Issaquah Village is just inutes away and a very nice little town to visit. We give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again if Lake Pleasant RV Park were unavailable.
Pendleton KOA Journey - Pendleton, OR - May 5/17-18, 2023
A nice KOA campground, reasonably priced and easily accessible from I-84. We only stopped here one night on our way home but it was a good place to stay with nice grass and level gravel spaces. We give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Center Point RV Park - Nampa, ID - May 14-17, 2023
Nice enough park in terms of layout with asphalt roads and spacious cement pads with astroturf alongside each one. But at least backin spots at the side which they put us in were among the most unlevel spots we have ever had to stay in. Even with multiple pads under the front wheels and jacks we could not quite get level. Poor design. We give it 5 out of 10 and would not stay here again.
Aspen Grove RV Park - Tremonton, UT - May 13, 2023
A beautiful new KOA with nice spacious concrete spaces, asphalt roads, nicely landscaped, good satellite access, etc. Perfect location north of Salt Lake City and Ogden. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Richfield KOA Holiday - Richfield, UT - May 12, 2023
Another very nice KOA Kampground, sites and roads all a nice clean rounded gravel, level full hookups of course. We only did a quick overnight enroute to Boise, Idaho, but this was a nice, comfortable place to spend the night, It was a little bit out of the way, but the best option to break up the trip. We give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Grand Junction KOA Holiday - Grand Junction, CO - May 9-12, 2023
Grand Junction, CO is a spectacular place to visit... the grand plateau and magnificent canyons are not to be missed. All a sandy gravel park, spacious sites each with some grass and divider fences... level full hookups of course, in a convenient location to the monument. We give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Sun Outdoors Canyonlands Gateway - Moab, UT - May 2-9, 2023
Moab is a very popular place to bring your RV... billed as the Outdoor Adventure Capital of the USA. Sun Outdoors owns may RV Parks including several in this area. There is also Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway. We are very close to the turnoff for Canyonlands National Park but it is also just about 7 miles to the turnoff for Arches National Park. It is well laid out with full hookups and excellent satellite access. Since this area is popular with Off Road vehicles, it is a dusty plac, especially when the wind is blowing. The whole park is park dirt... spaces, roads, everything. No grass and no pavement. But it comes with the territory, I guess. We give it 7 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Albuquerque KOA Journey - Albuquerque, NM - April 28-29, 2023
Nice KOA campground just outside Albuquerque, NM. Like so many KOA's these days it is too expensive, but it is well appointed, level asphalt pull thru spaces with full hookups, good satellite access and a good dog park. Price aside we give it 9 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Santa Fe Skies RV Park - Santa Fe, NM - April 24-28, 2023
Nice place to stay when visiting Santa Fe. Packed gravel sites and roads, a little hard on dog paws, but level space and full hookups, good satellite access and a good dog park. Park sits atop a windy ridge so at least in April, oit was very windy every day. It's a little expensive but it is Santa Fe tourist prices... we give it 8 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Goulding's Campground - Monument Valley, UT - April 15-20, 2023
This is the place to stay in Monument Valley, Utah. We looked at any number of other parks including the KOA and none of them compare to Goulding's Campground. Nestled in a deep canyon with remarkable views out of every window. Asphalt roads throughout keep down dust, adequate sized level packed reddirt spaces, full hookups and mostly good satellite access. Dogs can be walked everywhere. There are lots of amenities including pool, store, restaurant... even their own gas station, supermarket and museum and theater. We had nice weather, but it could be messy if we had much rain. All in all, we give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again as long as it is not going to rain.
Antelope Point RV Park - Page, AZ - April 10-15, 2023
This is very well designed brand new RV Park benefitting from sensational views across the valley. Asphalt roads, beautiful smooth concete pads, full hookups, and nice patios with top quality artificial turf and xeriscaping. They furnish free cart rides down to the Marina on Lake Powell. We give it 10 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again. NOTE: You have to already have a national parks pass to enter the Glen Canyon Natonal Monument where the RV Park is located. Buy an annual or lifetime pass from the National Park Service .
Grand Plateau RV Resort - Kanab, UT - April 6-10, 2023
The resort is located within the boundaries of the Grand Staircase-Escalante national monument. Situated right below a gorgeous plateau, this new park is just a couple miles out of the town of Kanabm Utah. Asphalt paved roads and level packed sandy soil pads with full hookups, we give it 8 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Golden Shore RV Resort - Long Beach, CA - March 26-29, 2023
Nice RV Park, conveniently located near Long Beach Harbor and major freeways. Full hookups for mostly back-in spaces. Some grass but no-dogs signs everywhere except dog run with artificial grass. They hose it down daily but still it's a poor substitute for dog walking. Avoid this place like the plague in heavy rains... all the sites flood and sand spaces must be partly clay as they flood badly. All in all, we give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again if it is not going to rain.
Dockweiler State Beach RV Park - Playa Del Rey, CA - March 25, 2023
Located right at the beach in Playa Del Rey, this park is conveniently located to the L.A. area and Culver City. We stayed in the back row which is the least expensive and probably the best since you cannot see much of the beach in the front row as it faces the sand dunes. We could see the surf from our windshield in the back row with its pull straight in. The park is fairly tight quarters and pull of party people on the weekend. And it is right by the LA airport so it is quite noisy. But it has full hookups, level asphalt spaces and good dog walking on the grass strip right in front of the coach. And we were glad to get a last minute reservation for one night until our reservations at Long Beach were available. We were glad to get back to the quiet! All in all, we give it 6 out of 10 and would stay here again for the convenience factor.
Santa Nella RV Park - Santa Nella, CA - March 18-20, 2023
Santa Nella is nicely located about half way down I-5 between our first stop after the Oregon border, Red Bluff, CA and Bakersfield where we usually stop before we go over the Grapevine into L.A. And the town of Santa Nellka is home to Pea Soup Anderson's which is always worth a visit. We give it 8 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Holiday RV Park - Phoenix, Oregon - March 16, 2023
Scenic little spot near Medford in southern Oregon, a good place to spend the nite before heading up over the Siskiyou Pass into California. Reasonably priced with nice level spaces and full hookups, we give it 7 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Silver Spur RV Park - Silverton, Oregon - July 6-8, 2022
We stay here for three nights while visiting the Oregon Garden in Silverton. It's very nice RV park, clean, spacious and well maintained with nice grass for walking dogs. Full hookups and excellent satellite reception. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Premier RV Resorts, Lincoln City - Lincoln City, OR - February 20-22, 2022
Premier is always an excellent choice... and Lincoln City is no exception. Right near the ocean, well maintained with fully paved wide sites with nice grass and small trees. Full hookups and excellent satellite reception. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Bandon By the Sea RV Park - Bandon, OR - February 18-20, 2022
Bandon Beach is a great place to visit, and Bandon By the Sea RV Park is an excellent choice for a place to stay while here. It is right on Hwy 101 but get a space at the west end of the park and it is surprisingly quiet. Close to the beach, the park offers full hookups, paved angled pull-thru sites and good satellite reception. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
San Francisco RV Resort / Thousand Trails - Pacifica, CA - January 23 - February 6, 2022
This is an excellent place to stay when visiting San Francisco. There are very few decent options around the bay area, and this one is the main recent we decided worth our while to join Thousand Trails. As members with the additional Encore rider, we can stay here for $20/nite compared to $120/nite for non members. As with all park in the bay area, spaces are tight. It's not much more than an asphalt lot with angled parking for RV's with full hookups but it is right on the bluffs above the ocean and the apace we had had great views of the ocean. We give it 7.5 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again. (7.5 compared the the nation as a while, but 9.5 for San Francisco)
Casa de Fruta Orchard RV Resort - Hollister, CA - January 21-23, 2022
Just outside the San Francisco Bay area near Gilroy, CA, Casa de Fruta is a fun place to stay. They have a restauarant, a large store with many fruits for sale. Lots of trees but still some decent satellite access at some front spaces. We give it 7.5 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Orange Grove RV Park & Resort - Bakersfield, CA - January 20-21, 2022
Very nice RV park on the east side of the city with large, level, sandy pull-thru parking spaces with good dog walking. And as a real treat you are parking amongst orange trees and they are loaded with navel oranges in December and January. Great satellite access. We give it 8.5 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Las Vegas RV Resort - Las Vegas. NV - January 15-20, 2022
This is a very nice RV resort on the east side of Las Vegas, conveniently located to many of area attractions. Large, level sandy parking spaces with good dog walking. Decent satellite access at many spaces. We give it 7.5 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Palm Springs RV Resort - Thousand Trails - Palm Springs , CA - January 3-7, 2022
We checked out another Thousand Trails campground, this time in Palm Desert near Palm Springs - Crowded as it is peak season here but very decent with good amentiies, paved roads and sandy campsites with full hookups. Decent satellite access at many spaces. Good Dog walking. We give it 7.5 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Wilderness Lakes RV Resort - Thousand Trails - Menifee, CA - January 1-3, 2022
We checked out another Thousand Trails campground on our way north from San Diego... very pleasant place to stay with full hookups, paved roads and sandy campsites. Good Dog walking. We give it 7.5 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
San Diego Metro KOA - Chula Vista, CA - December 26-1, 2021
Pio Pico allowed us to stay several days beyond the usual 4 day limit as we both caught a pretty severe respiratory virus called RSV but when our time ran out we decided to move to San Diego Metro KOA much closer to where all the family was gathering for the holidays. Typical KOA - nice roomy sites, even in the economy back-in section where they had a space for us. Full hookups - 30A only in the economy section which works fine in cooler weather. Satellite and Verizon worked well as well. A little spendy but about what you might expect in an expensive city like San Diego. Good dog walking and other amentities. We give it 7 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Pio Pico RV Resort & Campground / Thousand Trails - Jamul, CA - December 19-26, 2021
Pio Pico is another remote Thousand Trails campground - this one on the outskirts of San Diego. Here we has full hookups including sewer but only managed to find a 30A site available... And once again zero verizon wireless so we once again rented local wifi which was not as good as the last one... ok at certain times of day but pretty spotty during high use hours. We made do. Again I had good Dish satellite access. We give it 7 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Soledad Canyon RV Resort / Thousand Trails - Acton, CA - December 12-16, 2021
We spent another 4 days at this Thousand Trails in the L.A. area. We had wanted to check this one out as a plausible place to stay when visited family and friends in Los Angeles. It's a nice enough campground. We managed to find a 50A site with good Dish satellite access, but we had zero Verizon access and so we rented their local wifi access with the time we were there and it was quite good. And no sewer connections either... so ok for a few nights using our holding tanks, but it would be a problem for longer stays. The only problem with staying here is the remote location. It is definitely out there. Everywhere we have stayed in L.A. requires some real freeway travel time to visit with friends and Soleded Canyon requires the most of any. We give it 6 out of 10 and would stay here again for a short stay.
Morgan Hill RV Resort / Thousand Trails - Morgan Hill, CA - December 7-11, 2021
Above average Thousand Trails RV Resort with large pool and very nice grounds, good dog walking. The location is a bit remote compared to Maple Leaf RV Park where we have stayed before just out of downtown Morgan Hill, but a lot more pleasant place to hang out. And of course, since it is a Thousand Trails park and we're here for 4 nights, there is no fee. We got a 50A pull thru spot with satellite access, but these spots are in the minority. One downside is that there is no sewer hookups so not ideal for longer stays, but for a few days, it's ok if you are self contained. They do have a couple dump stations and there is also a sanitary or "honey wagon" service to pump out your tanks for a fee. We give it 7.5 out of 10 and would probably stay here again as Thousand Trails members, but if we did not renew our TT membership we would probably find a place closer to town.
Red Bluff KOA Journey - Red Bluff, CA - December 4-7, 2021
Superb KOA - very large newer park with bike trails, paved roads and level concrete pads with very long pull-thrus, excellent dog walking, all amenities and full hookups, exc satellite. A little noisy though due to proximity to Interstate. Very expensive - about $80/nite. We give it 9.5 out of 10 but would probably NOT stay here again as there are plenty of more reasonably priced options in the area.
Southern Oregon RV Park (Fairplex Medford) - Medford, OR - December 2-4, 2021
An excellent spot... full hookups, convenient location, all hookups and good satellite and cell. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again
Rogue Valley Overnighters - Grants Pass, OR - November 1-5, 2021
This was a pretty good option while visiting the Grants Pass / Medford area. It's a small well maintained park, reasonable rates, full hookups, and we managed to find a few spots which had satellite access thru the trees. Only negative is the location right on Highway 99 in downtown Grants Pass... convenient but a little noisy. We give it 7 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again
Long Beach RV & amp; Camping Resort - Long Beach, WA - October 4-7, 2021
We have stayed here before, but never as Thousand Trails members. This time we stayed 3 nights at no charge. Calling this a resort is a bit hyperbolic, but it is a nice enough campgroound, blose to the ocean and the great Discovery Trail bike trail. Nicely laid out level gravel spaces, full hookups, excellent cell and some satellite access. We give it 7 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again, especially when staying for free!
Hoquiam River RV Park - Hoquiam, WA - October 1-4, 2021
Nice RV park close to the beach at Ocean Shores, but not on it. Clean level park, nicely laid out level gravel spaces, full hookups, excellent cell and satellite access. The park manager has fresh baked goodies at the office each day, complementary for guests! Nice touch! We give it 8 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Lake Pleasant RV Park - Bothell, WA - September 25 - October 1, 2021
Lake Pleasant RV Park is a very nice RV park on the northern reaches of the Seattle metro area. All asphalt paved include individual RV spaces, full hookups, and good cell and satellite access, The spaces are a little tight but as you would expect in a city RV Park. The scenic little lake in the center provides a resort sort of feel for a city RV Park, and yet right scross the street is a nice shopping center with a large Safeway which includes a large low priced fuel station, and may other useful shops. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Birch Bay RV Campground / Thousand Trails - Birch Bay, WA - September 22-25, 2021
This quiet little campground is about a mile from bay tucked back on a quiet little country road. Large, level spaces with full hookups... Excellent cell and satellite reception. Also not crowded this time of year. Because it is part of the Thousand Trails network, we pay nothing for up to 4 nights here. If we were paying retail, I would probably rate it 7 out of 10, but as it is free for us as TT members, it is hard to beat! We would definitely stay here again.
Fidalgo Bay RV Resort - Anacortes, WA - September 19-22, 2021
This is marvelous RV Park located light on the waters of Fidalgo Bay in Puget Sound. This is a large park with a unique layout and generous level spaces with full hookups. Excellent cell and satellite reception. It was not at all crowded in mid September. It features nice walking and bicycle paths. We give it 10 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Point Hudson Marina & RV Park - Port Townsend, WA - September 16-18, 2021
The park itself isn't much... spots are level and it does have full hookups, but no amenities in what is otherwise a gravel lot. But it's all about the location located right on the water here in Port Townsend, along Port Townsend Bay in the lower Puget Sound. We give it 8 out of 10 for the location and would stay here again.
Olympic Peninsula / Port Angeles KOA - Port Angeles, WA - September 13-15, 2021
A nice KOA with typical KOA amenities, level gravel spaces with full hookups. Only negative is that the park is very close to Hwy 101 and you get the traffic noise. We give it 7 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Forks 101 RV Park - Forks, WA - September 10-12, 2021
Good location for a visit to Forks WA, just 12 miles from the entrance road to the Hoh Rainforest. Quiet large level grass spaces with full hookups and good satellite access. Close to gun range, so occasional gunshots can be heard. We give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Rain Forest Resort Village - Quinault, WA - September 7-9, 2021
A small very quiet remote campground in the Olympic National Forest. Large level grass spaces with 30A and water only, our space was one of the few able to get satellite. We had to drive up to the main road to access their park wifi and very limited cell access. We give it 7 out of 10 and would stay here again short term.
Columbia Riverfront Resort - Woodland, WA - September 4-6, 2021
A beautifully maintained RV Park right on the Columbia River, with level manicured gravel spaces and full hookups. Excellent satellite access. We give it 10 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Cascade Locks KOA - Cascade Locks, OR - September 3, 2021
Easy access off I-84, with full hookups, the spaces are level but tight. We chose it for a night because of tight reservations on Labor Day weekend, and at least on the holiday weekend, the campground was crowded and noisy with a lot of kids. No satellite access in most spaces. We give it 6 out of 10 and would stay here again in a pinch.
Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - La Pine, OR - September 1-2, 2021
This is an above average Thousand Trails location... level spaces in a quiet location near the town of La Pine, just south of Bend, Oregon. Only 30A and water, no sewer hookups, but a good place to spend a few nights. No satellite access in most spaces. We give it 7 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Winchester Bay RV Resort - Winchester Bay, OR - July 21-23, 2021
An outstanding spot near the Oregon coast... located on Winchester Bay just south of Florence, the location is quiet and scenic with manicured level paved spaces, some with bay views, 50A and full hookups, with excellent dog walking and bicycling. Excellent satellite access. We give it 10 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Waldport / Newport KOA - Waldport, OR - July 30-31, 2020
Outstanding KOA just off the Coast highway and near the beach. Clean, level semi private gravel spaces with a friendly and helpful staff. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Port of Newport RV Park & Marina - South Beach - Newport, OR - July 28, 2020
We left Lincoln City KOA and move down the coast to this lovely park by the ater with a large marina attached. Paved level spaces, easy satellite access, and good electrical. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Lincoln City KOA Journey - Lincoln City, OR - July 26-27, 2020
Clean KOA close in to Newport. We stayed in a pull thru the first nite which was fine, but on night two they moved us to a 30A backin spot... and while 30A is all we need, the Electrical system at this park is a mess and the voltage fluctuated badly from 100v to 112v such that we could not use our appliances. When brought to their attention the rude staff told us to leave. We give it a 1 out of 10 and would NEVER stay here again.
Casey's Riverside RV Park - Oakridge, OR - Feb 20-21, 2020
Charming small RV park right on the Willamette River rushing rapids. Concrete slab pullthrus, almost empty in winter. Reasonable price under $40/day - Excellent place to walk the dog. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Medford Gold Hill KOA - Central Point, OR - December 4, 2019
Very nice park just north of Medford in Southern Oregon, not far from Ashland, one of our favorite towns. PArtially wooded with open sites as well if satellite reception is desired for longer stays. Excellent place to walk the dog... quiet location but not far from I-5. Reasonably priced level long gravel pull throughs. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Pomona / Fairplex KOA - Pomona, CA - Nov 26 - Dec 2, 2019
Because our usual L.A. layover was full with no space available, we chose to stay this time at the Pomona Fairplex KOA out in Pomona in the east valley. This is a really nice tree lined RV Park with hundreds of spaces, all asphalt pads and roads, nicely maintained with a grass strip in between each one. They are a little close together but the place was not crowded at all so we had no one else even near us. If you ask for a satellite friendly spot they will do their best to accommodate you. We had good satellite reception for our stay. Dog friendly walking and includes a fenced dog run as well. It was a pleasure to stay here after our more crowded and less aesthetically pleasing stops in the Bay area and Santa Barbara. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Shoreline RV Park - Eureka, CA - September 11-13, 2019
Nice location near the ocean with spacious level spaces and full hookups, we stayed here to visit a good friend in Eureka, CA. We give it 8 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Village Camper Inn RV Park - Crescent City, CA - November 9-11, 2019
Good location close to the beach in beautiful Crescent City, CA which is also a short drive to Brookings. Full hookups and level spaces... We give it 8 out of 10 and would stay here again.
Candlestick RV Park - San Francisco, CA - September 15-18, 2021
The most convenient location to the city does not mitigate the terrible neighborhood amidst the ruins of the old Candlestick Stadium and hordes of homeless, crowded overpriced spaces. Full hookups is the only positive comment here... We give it 4 out of 10 and would definitely NOT stay here again.
Fernridge Shores - Community, RV Park & Marina - Fernridge Lake, OR - Aug - Oct 2019
OK, we admit it, we just love this place! Located just outside the small town of Veneta, it is about 12 miles west of Eugene, OR. We stayed here in the summer of 2011 in our truck camper and found it a very pleasant place to stay. So we returned with the Windseeker Bounty Hunter in 2012. Always more of a retirement community with mostly semi permanent residents, it is now strictly for long term stay and has a 2-3 year waiting list. We were lucky to get in this summer because we bought our new Avalanche 5th wheel which came with one of the best spots in the park. It's a very quiet location, and nearby Veneta has shopping, restauarants, and more. Generous spaces, many with lake views, are mostly level gravel with gravel roads and lots of trees, and each space has a small wood storage shed which is handy. They have a great little marina on the lake and a slip is included with your space! and a nice little waterfront park which is very pet friendly. Monthly rates are just $455. Cell and Verizon 4G availability were pretty good, but no park wifi at all. We would rate it 8.5 out of 10 overall.
Sacramento Shade RV Park - Sacramento, CA - May 10-11, 2019
A very nice RV Park in Sacramento, well maintained with nice private sites, each with it's own separator fence and grass patch. There is some commentary online about rudeness from the manager, but we never encountered any management in our two days and had no negative experience to report. Level gravel pads with Concrete patio, full hookups in a quiet location. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Lake Park RV Resort & Lodge - Lake Elsinore, CA - May 6, 2019
We made a quick stop here in Lake Elsinore to visit an old friend who lives hearby in Murrieta, CA. It's only an hour from San Diego so we got in early and met our friends for dinner. Lake Park RV Resort is a nice campground..... We were only here overnight but we give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Admiral Baker RV Park - San Diego, CA - May 2-5, 2019
Here for a wedding in San Diego, we were looking for something close in to the city. Admiral Baker RV Park is a nice spot which is primarily for active duty military personnel, but civilians are allowed to stay here too and can make reservations within one month of the planned stay. We made reservations at a KOA down in Chula Vista but on the one month deadline we called and got a space here at Admiral Baker RV Park. Level Concrete pads, full hookups and backed up to a golf course with lots of grass to walk the dogs. We give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely stay here again.
Camanche South Shore Recreation Area - Valley Springs, CA - April 1-4, 2019
I owned an old mobile home years ago here at Camanche Lake. It was a wonderful escape spot for me from the ratrace of LA where I lived in the 70's and 80's. So a return here almost 40 years later was a real homecoming for me. We were not disappointed. They have upgraded and improved the campgrounds but the character remains the same. We had a level gravel space in the quiet Miner's Camp, just up from the South Shore Marina. Full hookups and a clear shot for Satellite access in space #11. There was plenty of space in April... not crowded at all. We're considering a spring trip down here with our sailboat. We shall see. We give it 9 out of 10 and are planning to return.
Life Northwest RV & Lodging - Harrisburg, OR - October 19-21, 2018
We were testing this RV Park out for next summer... looking for something a reasonable commute to Fernridge Lake where we will keep our sailboat for the summer. Just north of Junction City, this park is about 20+ minutes from the lake, about the best we can do, since Richardson County Park has a 2 week limit and no sewer connections, and Fernridge Shores where we have also stayed before, now caters mostly to full-timers and has no availability. Life Northwest RV is in a nice quiet location, situated on a river with good grass for walking the dog. There's good grocery shopping and several restaurants nearby and spaces are level concrete with full hookups and parking. We give it 7 out of 10.
Tri City RV Park - Myrtle Creek, OR - October 16-19, 2018
We stayed here briefly back in September and had to leave early, so they were kind enough to give us a voucher for 3 nights on this trip. The Park is near Roseburg and the Wildife Safari which we wanted to visit. The Park is quite nice... level concrete pads, full hookups, in a quiet location. We give it 8 out of 10.
Emigrant Lake-Point RV Park - Ashland, OR - October 12-16, 2018
Nice quiet County Park on Emigrant Lake, a few miles out of downtown Ashland. Not many RV Park options close-in to the city. Nice roomy level asphalt spaces with full hookups. This is nice remote location, quiet and secluded and probably scenic when the lake is full... but when we were there the water level was very, very far down. We'll try it again on a wetter year. We give it 8 out of 10.
Lincoln City KOA - Lincoln City, OR - August 20-23, 2018
Friendly small RV Park at the Oregon coast, Lincoln City is one of the closer coast points for us living in Vancouver, and a nice quiet beach community to visit. This KOA is family friendly, and has lots of trees in a quiet location. Lots of dogs for Corey to meet and play with. We would stay here again. We give it 8 out of 10.
Olde Stone Village RV Park - McMinnville, OR - June 2-3, 2018 (also 2/26/20)
Nice local RV Park... easy quick getaway near the Portland / Vancouver area. Nice level concrete spaces and adjacent to Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. We give it 8 out of 10.
Southern Oregon RV Park - Medford, OR - November 14-15, 2016
This brand new park is pretty nice for state park campgrounds. Full hookups including 50A and sewer, unusual for a state park. Nice and green with fresh grass beside every site, clear shot to the satellites convenient to I-5 right outside Medford Oregon. However, as so often happens the park is designed by morons who have NO CLUE how a motorhome is laid out. The sewer connections are towards the back of the bus and are raised above ground level making it impossible to get a gravity flow the bus connection. For that reason we give it 4 out of 10 and would definitely NOT stay here again.
Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort - Las Vegas, NV - November 7-11, 2016
A very nice RV Park in sunny Las Vegas. Weather in early November was perfect highs in upper 70's and clear sunny skies. The park has level concrete pads, nice asphalt roads, and full amenities., but the putting green was awful. Still, it makes for a very nice place to stay, close in to the LV Strip (which we avoided like the plague). Reasonably priced for what you get. We give it 9 out of 10 once again.
Desert's Edge RV Village - Phoenix, AZ - November 1-6, 2016
Nicknamed the Purple Park, Desert's Edge RV Village is a place we always stay when in Phoenix... last time in February 2013. We spent a week here this time visiting some friends. We visited Sabino Canyon again, and went to the horse races at Turf Paradise Racetrack. Spaces are a little tight, but nice level gravel spaces, paved roads and modest amenities make this a pleasant park to stay when in the Phoenix area. And they permit you to wash your vehicles which we appreciate! We give it 9 out of 10 once again.
Tucson / Lazydays KOA, AZ - October 24-30, 2016
We have stayed at Tucson / Lazydays KOA before in 2015 and in 2013 and decided to spend another week here before continuing on to Phoenix, Las Vegas and homeward. We give it 9 out of 10 once again.
Hacienda RV Resort - Las Cruces, NM - October 23, 2016
We have stayed here in 2015 as well. I would rate it 8 out of 10 once again.
Burkburnett / Wichita Falls KOA - Burkburnett, TX - October 21, 2016
This is a small campground with the KOA brand... we arrived after a deluge of rain so it was very muddy... and somewhat unpleasant as a result. Full hookups in the rather tight gravel spaces and priximity to the freeway make it a place we wouldn't care to spend any length of time, but it was fine for an overnight. We would give it a 7 out of 10.
Casino Queen RV Park - East St Louis, IL - October 15-19, 2016
This RV Park is part of the Casino Queen Casino Resort. We did even go near the casino... we chose it because of its proximity to our friends who live here and because of the security and relative safety in the St Louis area. It's all asphalt with crushed rock areas next to each asphalt pad. Full hookups and a reasonable view of the iconic St Louis Gateway Arch, make it a pleasant enough place to stay. It is right next to a busy train track which is somewhat of a drawback. About half the sites are not as level as one would expect and the layout of each space is poorly thought out... with the hookups including sewer at the very back of the long pull thru spaces. In our case the sewer house had to be run slightly uphill about 20 feet to the sewer connection. Not a pleasant situation. We would stay here again but try for a more level space. We would give it a 7 out of 10.
Whispering Hills RV - Lexington, KY - May 27 - June 2, 2016
We are back at Whispering Hills RV, a lovely RV Park just north of Lexington, Kentucky in the suburb of Georgetown. It is well manicured with full hookups, level gravel spaces and friendly folks. Our premium pull thru spot looks out down the hill over green trees and grass... wide open for perfect satellite reception as well. They also gave us a good spot to park the sailboat. We would give it an 9 out of 10.
Sunbury/Columbus North KOA - Sunbury, OH - October 2, 2016
We took three days to get from Rochester to Lexington, KY. First night was a walmart in Mayfield Heights Ohio and the second night was this very nice KOA. Again very quiet this time of year. But it is a very quiet location anyhow, well off the main roads. They have a nice little pond in the middle good dog walking and nice long gravel pull thrus with full hookups. I would rate it maybe 9 out of 10.
Canandaigua / Rochester KOA - Canandaigua, NY - September 28-30, 2016
We stopped thru Rochester to visit the Banfield Veterninary Clinic for Corey so he could have his teeth cleaned and a couple warts removed. Last time we stayed at the Twilight on the Erie RV Park reviewed below. We were not too fond of it so this time we chose a KOA and were not disappointed. All the campgrounds up here are pretty quiet this time of year as they are preparing to close for the season soon. We got a nice level gravel site with a stone patio and full hookups. If Canandaigua Lake were a little larger for sailing, this might be an interesting place to stay. Canandaigua is a very nice town it seems. I would rate it maybe 9 out of 10.
1000 Islands Campground - Alexandria Bay, NY - September 2016
We arrived here after leaving Canada to spend the month of September. We stayed here last July/August as well. Quiet, low key and friendly, with very reasonable monthly rates, the park is nicely located mid way between Clayton and Alexandria Bay, NY along Route 12. We're in the back and can't really even hear the highway. Roomy spots and many of the people are weekenders who only show up occasionally. No real amenities, but good dog walking, full hookups and no restrictions, it's an easy place to spend time in the summer. I would rate it maybe 7.5 out of 10.
Twilight on the Erie RV Park - Macedon, NY - August 29-30, 2016
This was just a brief layover in the Rochester area in upstate New York, enroute to the Thousand Islands. Thank goodness as the spots are too narrow and not very level. Fortunately the place was about 85% empty so we were not packed in and had plenty of room in adjoining empty spaces for the boats. There is nothing resembling grass here for walking the dog... just nasty weeds everywhere. At least the 50A power was quite good after the terrible experiences with low voltage throughout Ontario. I made an appoinment with the dermatologist in Rochester and Corey went to Banfield Vet Clinic for his diabetes check. This is a park we would NOT return to - we would give it a 5 out of 10.
Campers Corner RV Campground - London, Ontario - August 26-28, 2016
We spent two nights in this nicely wooded campground while visiting friends in the area. Not a lot of other reasons to come to this area, it seems to me, but the park suited us well enough for our purposes. Full hookups, but the big drawback was that it was only 30A power, and as we have now found universally throughout Ontario this summer, there was inadequate voltage, which fortunately our Surge Guard Voltage Regulator was able to boost and compensate for. So as long as we didn't try to use too many appliances simultaneously, we survived a couple nights on 30A power. It was close to the interstate so not very quiet. We would give it a 7.5 out of 10.
Smith's Trailer Park & Camp - Midland, ON, CAN -July 29 - August 26, 2016
About the only game in town close in to Midland Harbor where we kept our sailboat docked. It's a quiet family campground with a large percentage of mobile homes and permanent seasonal people, and then a few transient sites large enough to handle our coach. Full hookups and 50A in some spots. We had good satellite and cellular reception. We had low voltage issues here as well and were told it was a province-wide problem here in Ontario. We would give it a 7.5 out of 10 and given the proximity to the marina, we would stay here again, no problem.
Gravenhurst / Muskoka KOA - Gravenhurst, ON, CAN - July 26-28, 2016
This KOA is several steps down from the last one. The only good thing to be said about it is that campsite is very large and private. That's very nice - we have room for both our boats right in our campsite. It's very shady so there is no hope for satellite, but fortunately with the shade the bus stays cooler and we don't have as much need for A/C. Good thing because the site is only 30A and even that is questionable. I found right away that I had to use my voltage booster because voltage is too low. And even with the voltage booster engaged, the voltage dropped below the threshold for that and the generator kicked in, just using the coffeepot with the electric hotwater elements powered on. And the water pressure here is a joke also. We're using the water pump for showers. And we are paying top dollar to stay here! Not their fault, but yet another consideration is the abymsal cellular connection here (Verizon). This is a park we would NOT return to and would rate it 4 out of 10.
Toronto North / Cookstown KOA - Cookstown, ON, CAN - June 12 - July 25, 2016
Now THIS is a good KOA. Generous, angled pull thru gravel spaces with extremely nice grass, full hookups, and WIDE gravel roads and turns... among the widest we have encountered anywhere which is just great for maneuvering the coach. Many nice trees but still good reception for satellite. Probably the BEST dog walking options we have ever had in an RV Park and great free parking options for our boats and trailers. And plenty of nice amenities including pool, mini golf, volleyball, horsehoes, etc. It is a little close to the main 4 lane highway, but is still relatively quiet. The only real downside here is the cost. Like most KOA parks, they offer only limited monthly rate spaces and not for short term. So we're stuck paying a substantial weekly rate... fortunately the exchange rate in Canada is in our favor these days. Expense aside, this is a park we would return to and would rate it 9 out of 10.
Jellystone Park Niagara Falls - Niagara Falls, ON, CAN - June 12. 2016
We had some errands to run before crossing the border and were not sure how long the border crossing would take so we decided to make a layover in Niagara Falls in Ontario before we head on to Lake Simcoe. It wasn't very crowded here in early June. It's a very large park and nicely laid out, but right by the major highway so pretty noisy. We were given a long level gravel pull thru and they let us park car and boat in one of the empty sites adjacent to us... a nice accommodation. We would rate this perhaps 6.5 out of 10. If we come thru here again for more than an overnight we would probably investigate some other options.
Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA - Streetsboro, OH - June 3-8, 2016
This is a very nice quiet KOA campground only ten minutes from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which we stopped to visit on our way to Canada. We got a nice long pull thru which fit our coach, sailboat and car... and they gave us space in a field onsite to leave the C-Dory. Full hookups, nice grass, satellite availability and a lovely setting made it a good place to spend what turned out to be a week due to problems again with one of our coach hydraulic jacks. Roads and sites are gravel (and not quite level). We would give it an 8.5 out of 10 and would stay here again, no problem.
Whispering Hills RV - Lexington, KY - May 27 - June 2, 2016
Whispering Hills RV is a lovely RV Park just north of Lexington, Kentucky in the suburb of Georgetown, well manicured with full hookups, level gravel spaces and friendly folks. Our premium pull thru spot looks out down the hill over green trees and grass... wide open for perfect satellite reception as well. They also gave us a good spot to park the boats. It is much quieter here than our Nashville stop. We would give it an 8.5 out of 10.
Jellystone Park Camp - Cave City, KY - May 25-25, 2016
We made a brief stop here enroute to Lexington so we could visit Mammoth Cave National Park. Once again they gave us a long level pull through space with room for both boats and our coach and car. Full hookups and usual Jellystone amenities in a nice wooded setting on a hillside. No satellite reception because of the trees, but it was only for two nights. We would stay here again. We would give it an 8.5 out of 10.
Grand Ole RV Resort - Nashville, TN - May 18-24, 2016
This is a reasonably priced, well maintained park just north of Nashville and easily accessible via I-65. Just don't try it during rush hour. It's located along a busy highway and a railroad track runs right along the back side.... but the trains don't blow their horns... that is the saving grace. The park has full hookups of course, and they gave us a long level pull through space with room for both boats and our coach and car. They have a small attached store and cafe which has a decent little menu and features live country music 4 nights a week. The spaces and roads are packed gravel and reasonably level. Management is friendly and will arrange tours and transportation. We would give it a 7.5 out of 10
Lazy Acres Campground - Lenoir City, TN - May 14-17, 2016
A remote and quiet campground convenient to Tellico Lake and Tellico Village where we came to visit friends. The park has full hookups and gave us a long level pull through space with room for both boats and our coach and car. Access from the main road is tricky... GPS tries to lead you in the back way... not what you want with a big coach. The spaces are packed gravel - roads are nice asphalt. We would stay here again. I would rate it about an 8 out of 10.
Oak Plantation Campground - Charleston, SC - Apr 27 - May 4, 2016
Since we were paying by the week at Lake Murray, we decided to take a week off and head over to Charleston, one city we have really been wanting to visit. We selected Oak Plantation Campground just outside Charleston in the town of Johns Island. This is a lovely large campground with ex ceptionall spacious level spaces with well packed gravel and pavel roads. Full hookups, a swimming pool, a nice dog run, and lots of nice tree covered grounds for dog walking. Just 10 miles or so from downtown Charleston, it makes a great spot to stay for a week while taking in all the area has to offer. The 120' pull thru spaces had pleenty of room for our coach, boat and car. And the management tends to group RV's by type so we're surrounded by others in large motor coaches. They even have good wifi and soft water. We would give it a 9.5 out of 10
Barnyard RV Park - Lexington, SC - Apr 13 - May 12, 2016
We stayed here before briefly and found it to be the best option for a large motorcoach like ours near to Lake Murray where we put out sailboat in for the month. Generous spacing in pull thru spaces with full hookups, makes it a comfortable place to spend a week Conveniently located not only to the lake but to all shopping and necessities makes it an excellent choice. I would rate it about an 8 out of 10.
Hollywood KOA - Hollywood, FL - Feb 11-15, 2016
We came to the area for the Miami Boat Show. It was sort of a last minute decision so we had to take what we could get. This KOA is newly developed and nice enough for a city location... it is small, cramped and noisy with city traffic but conveniently located and reasonable in price. We got a 'premium' spot which was a pull thru fortunately, as there would be no way to do a backin in these tight quarters... but our "patio" is right on a side street with a junky house right across the street. Definitely not resort accommodations. The owners are friendly enough though, and it was OK for a few days, given the location. We would try to avoid staying here again. I would rate it about a 5 out of 10.
Sunshine Holiday Resort - Daytona Beach, FL - Nov 24-30, 2015
This is another Encore Resort like the Royal Coachman in Venice where we just came from. It is laid out much the same and has plenty of amenities and full hookups. The whole park is a little tight for large coaches like ours. We hit it on a Daytona Speedway event so it was very crowded with lots of street rods and motorcycles. We wouldn't have stayed here had we known. Ah well... it's ok all in all and not too expensive. We would give it a 7.5 out of 10
Royal Coachman RV Resort - Venice, FL - Nov 17-23, 2015
This is a perfectly lovely RV park just minutes from my brother's condo on Venice Island. Spacious level sites with full hookups at a reasonable fee for Florida coastal parks. Lots of trees but the management actually informs you as to which sites have satellite reception and even though there are trees all around our space 128, we have a clear shot at the satellites. It's a lovely setting and very convenient to the Legacy Bike Trail. Amenities include Clubhouse, Bike Trails, Shuffleboard, Swimming Pool, Fishing, Fitness Center, WiFi, RV Storage, Pets Welcome, Nature / Hiking Trails, Mini Golf, Restroom/Shower Facilities, Laundry Facilities, Picnic/BBQ Area, Volleyball, Basketball, Horseshoes, Tennis Courts, Ballroom/Banquet Hall, Library, Business Center, Bocci Ball, etc. I would rate it a full 10 out of 10.
Wekiva Falls Campground - Sanford, FL (near Lake Monroe) - Oct 11, 2015 - April 1, 2016
See my earlier entry for Wekiva Falls and my review of this campground when we were here in the spring and gave it a 10. No place is perfect, but this is as near RV paradise for me as it gets. It bears repeating, I LOVE THIS PLACE!
Coastal Georgia RV Resort - Brunswick, GA - Oct 9, 2015
I don't give out 10 ratings very easily but on our RV Reviews page, I will definitely give this one a 10. All level angled concrete pads, asphalt roads and nice grass and shrubs. ZERO gravel, sand or dirt. NICE! Easy satellite reception and nice long pull through concrete slab spaces. If only ALL RV parks were this nice. This is the standard by which all future RV parks must be judged! We would definitely stay here again! And reasonably priced to boot! I would rate it a full 10 out of 10.
Heritage RV Park - Augusta, GA - Oct 6-8, 2015
We returned this far after the flood and found this park for a few days. Since I-95 is closed south of Columbia, we'll pick up our sailboat (which is fine) in Lexington and bring her back here before we head south to Florida. Augusta seems like a nice clean town with some interesting things to see and do, including some excellent kayaking and bicycling options. We got a lovely level backin spot with a private paved patio, and should be quite comfy here for a few days. Full hookups, good satellite reception and very reasonable rates... lots of grass and sand for dog walking. We would definitely stay here again! I would rate it about a 9 out of 10.
Jellystone Park - Bremen, GA - Oct 1-5, 2015
Because of the epic flooding in South Carolina we decided to leave town and head to higher ground. Bremen, Georgia seemed out of harm's way, about an hour west of Atlanta and a 3 hour drive from Lexington where we were scheduled to stay. Jellystone Park here is a nice new campground, well designed and laid out, level gravel spaces, full hookups, paved roads and nice and open for Satellite reception... and reasonably priced. We would definitely stay here again! I would rate it about a 9 out of 10.
Rutledge Lake RV - Asheville, NC - Oct 23-29, 2015
Very nice quiet secluded RV Park just south of downtown Asheville and a good place to camp while visiting the Biltmore and other Asheville area attractions. Level backin gravel spots with full hookups, good satellite reception... and reasonably priced. We would definitely stay here again! I would rate it about a 9 out of 10.
Jones Station RV Park - Durham, NC - Sept 22, 2015
We made a brief layover in Durham, NC and encountered one of the loveliest parks we have stayed in. It's brand new... only opened 2 years ago. Very spacious sites, beautiful location on a quiet hilltop, well laid out and a cheerful owner/manager. Pity they had a large RV club coming in and we could only stay one night. Full hookups, mostly level freshly graveled sites, and very reasonably priced. Easily the best bet in the entire Durham area. We would definitely stay here again! I would rate it about a 9.5 out of 10.
Jellystone Hagerstown - Hagerstown, MD - Sept 18-19, 2015
It was too far to make it from Cream Ridge, NJ all the way to Appomattox, VA in one day and we had a couple days to fill, so we pulled into Jellystone Park in Hagerstown, MD. We wanted to enjoy The Hagerstown City Park again for an afternoon and visit Carmine s Creative Italian Cuisine for the incredible antipasto. Like all Jellystone, it is well managed and maintained, and features lots of activities for kids. Some areas are roomier than others. I think next time we would stay in the 200's spaces which are roomier. It's a little on the spendy side, and for the money my only complaint is that they could have tried harder to make the spaces level. I would rate it about a 7.5 out of 10.
Timberland Lake Campground - Cream Ridge, NJ (near Philadelphia) - Sept 7-16, 2015
Timberland Lake Campground on the north side of Philadelphia should not be confused with Timberlane Campground on the south side. That is where we wanted to stay but with the change in dates they didn't have room for us. I am told Timberlane is very nice. Timberland Lake on the other hand is a fairly marginal place. A lot of seasonals and kind of a trailer park mentality. The "Lake" is a joke. Swamp is more the right term. The layout is terrible and it is very hard to find your way around the park, especially at night. There are almost no lights whatsoever. Not much in the way of nice grass for dog walking. But it is quiet, especially during the week, now post season. And the ground is sandy which is preferable to gravel and pleasant enough for walking the dog. We were given a level pull thru site which is pretty nice but the tall trees make satellite impossible. They had the usual basic cable which I did not even bother to hook up. If we are coming back to Philly I would definitely try for Timberlane next time. But if we had to, I would stay here again. I would rate it about a 6 out of 10.
Battle Row Campground - Old Bethpage, NY - Sept 4-6, 2015
We decided to brave NY traffic and drive down from Newport onto Long Island to visit some very dear old friends. I'm not sure I would ever do this again... it was harrowing, to say the least, but we made it safe and sound. Battle Row Campground is a very nice county park... water and 50A electric only... no sewer but since we're only here for the Labor Day weekend, we can handle it. If you would discount the lack of sewer, we would give it 9 out 10... but without sewer hookups, it's not the type of place we would stay for long.
Wawaloam Campground - Richmond, RI - 8/30 -9/3, 2015
This was best option we could find for a reasonable commute to Newport, R.I. and which had room for us. We had full hookups, but 30A only... you forget the hassles of juggling appliances to stay under the limit. Remember, 30A means max amperage usage of 30 amps total. 50A is 50 amps *per leg* so 100A total. There's a huge difference in a big modern coach like ours, especially if it is warm and you need to run A/C. You can really only run one unit on 30A. At least it was a nice quiet campground. But we REALLY enjoyed Newport, so I am sure we will return. Next time we might consider Melville Ponds Campground in Portsmouth, a closer hop into Newport. We would give Wawaloam Campground a 7.5 out of 10.
Boston/Cape Cod KOA - Middleboro, MA - August 22-29, 2015
We tried to find a decent campground at a reasonable price, centrally located to the city of Boston as well as Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. This was the best we could come up with. It is a quiet location in Middleboro, MA which is also close to Plymouth Rock Memorial Park. We secured a site with full hookups, not terribly level for a motor coach but we made it work. No satellite reception but decent cable. Nice woodsy dog walking options. I would rate it maybe 6.5 out of 10.
1000 Islands Campground - Alexandria Bay, NY - July/August 2015
We gladly pulled out of the over-priced party-central KOA after our 4 days were up, and moved over to our reserved RV Park for the summer. At 1/4 the price on the monthly rate and only a few miles from Bayside Marina where we have arranged for boat dockage for the summer, this much better suits our temperament. Quiet, low key and friendly. The park is nicely located mid way between Clayton and Alexandria Bay, NY along Route 12. We're in the back and can't really even hear the highway. Roomy spots and many of the people are weekenders who only show up occasionally. No real amenities, but good dog walking, full hookups and no restrictions, it's an easy place to spend the summer. There are the working class seasonals, but most are not here much. We're planning to return for the whole season next year. I would rate it maybe 8.5 out of 10.
Association Island KOA Campground - Henderson Bay, NY - July 1-4, 2015
As our first stop in the Thousand Islands area of upstate new York, we thought we would splurge and stay a few nights at this unique island KOA in a premium waterfont spot. We did have a pretty view out our windshield overlooking the bay, but nothing else about the place was worth the money or the effort. On a per-night basis, it cost us 10x what we will be spending in our next location which we are paying for at the monthly rate. But it is noisy and chaotic, especially on this 4th of July weekend, and more reminiscent of a YMCA campground for kids than a high end RV Resort, west coast style. It is many many miles from shopping and not convenient to anything really except the water. They do have a small little harbor with boat docks but their monthyl rate there is $1400 for our 22' boat. That is 10x what we paid at the MUCH nicer Columbia Crossings Marina in Portland, OR... and likewise almost 10x more than the infinitely nicer Monroe Harbor Marina where we docked the boat in Florida this spring. What are these people smoking? Needless to say, we will NOT be putting our boat in here EVER. But that's ok, we have much better dockage lined up up in Clayton at 1/4 the price. We did have full hookups in our gravel space and a little grass between RV's but for a 'premium' space it was not very level. I would rate it maybe 5 out of 10. We would definitely NEVER stay here again.
Pine Creek Campground - Newfield, NY - May 19-30, 2015
Pine Creek Campground is a wonderfully quiet remote campground about 5 miles or so out of Ithaca, New York. Lots of trees and open space with well kept green grass, it is a delightful place to set the jacks for a while. The spacious spots are not totally level so be prepared to use some blocks or pads to augment your auto leveling system, but once set up and connected to full 50 amp hookups, water and sewer. Not much for wifi but we have our own. We wound up staying two weeks because the weather turned stormy and it was not worth moving. I would rate it 8.5 out of 10. We would definitely stay here again.
Jonestown KOA - Jonestown, PA - May 17-18, 2015
We made a brief layover here near Harrisburg, PA to take care of a few matters before heading up to New York State. Pleasant well maintained park freeway close with full hookups and level sites easy to negotiate. Satellite reception was difficult with all the trees. But we were only staying two nights, and it was ideal for that. I would rate it 7.5 out of 10. We would stay here again if passing through central PA.
Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA - Williamsport, MD - May 10-16 2015
Once here it is easy to see why the location here is called Snug Harbor Lane. This KOA is really tucked away deep in the woods along Conococheague Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River. A beautiful location but a bit rustic. I guess that's the tradeoff. It is a convenient location though to do some bicycling along the 23 mile long Western Maryland Rail Trail (WMRT) as it winds along the Potomac River. Full hookups and marginally level gravel sites... absolutely no chance of satellite reception with all the trees. We had a premium site along the river, very private with a beautiful deck complete with porch swing, picnic table plus a patio table and chairs. Very nice. However, the matintenance of the park leaves much to be desired... our spot was easy to pull into but a nightmare to pull out... and the park is extremely dusty with poorly graveled roads. I would rate it 5 out of 10.
Luray KOA - Shenandoah River Valley, VA - April 30 - May 9, 2015
Well if our last overnight was a bust, This KOA Campground makes up for it. We LOVE this place. Quiet as you could ever wish for, it is more like a beautiful park than an RV Park with generous spaces with level gravel pads and lots and lots of grass, trees and beautiful scenery. Full hookups, a swimming pool and a superb dog park, this is THE place to stay when visiting the Shenandoah River Valley. The only thing that keeps this place from being a full 10 in our book is gravel roads and pads rather than asphalt or concrete. But that is a minor issue. I would rate it 9.5 out of 10. We would definitely come back.
Aquia Pines RV - near Richmond, VA - April 29, 2015
We spent one night here after we decided against staying at our intended Potomac River destination - the water there was brackish, not fresh water and we do not do salt. So we drove back over to I-95 and found a convenient RV park to stop while we planned our next move. Aquia Pines RV Park served the purpose. It was a neat and tidy park, convenient to I-95, but a little noisy for that reason. Lots of green and trees but very hilly and the gravel parking spots were not too level. A bit expensive too for what it offered. But we only needed to stay one night.. We would not go back. I would rate it 5 out of 10.
Hardeeville RV - near Savannah, GA - April 16-25, 2015
Just 15 miles from the city of Savannah, Hardeeville RV is an excellent place to spend a week or two as you tour this magnificent historic city. Full hookups, generous long pull thrus and level gravel pads with lots of nice shady grounds to go for walks with the dog. No additional amenities beyond laundry and rest rooms, but who needs amenities when you are visiting Savannah and nearby Hilton Head. This is a place to park and to sleep... too much to see and do around here. And it is very reasonable especially the weekly rates. Only downside to the park is that it is right on Highway 315 which is a pretty busy road, so there is traffic noise. But it drops off to almost nothing at night. I would rate it 8 out of 10. We will stay here again when we return to Savannah, which is a must!
Wekiva Falls Campground - Sanford, FL (near Lake Monroe) - March 16 - April 15, 2015
Formerly a KOA Campground, we just love this place. It is a true campground experience, not some artficial luxury motorhome parking spot. Located on a quiet back road, many of the 800+ campsites are huge here... easily 2-3 times the size of the average RV Park. We're in #776, a back-in spot which is deep enough for two monster motorhomes like ours and you could fit another one in between our neighbors on each side. Plenty of room for the car, the boat trailer, the kayak and bicyles without feeling crowded at all. There are huge trees all around but not so many that it blocks Satellite reception from many spots. We are easily 30 yards or more from the 5th wheel parked directly across the street. The clientele is a mix with many high end motorcoaches and many travel trailers and fifth wheels as well. There is also a tent camping area. Many people stay here for the whole season. The place is pretty full yet does not feel crowded. Full hookups, with level sandy/loamy soil spaces and small concrete patios for many sites, all connected by some 7 miles of asphalt paved roads. Great place to bicycle around, and many people use golf carts because of the size of the place. There is a central swimming hole facility but it gets pretty crowded with kids on the weekends. There's a campground store. I would rate the place 7 out of 10 if I were comparing amenities, paved pads, manicured grass and so on, but for the feel of the place as an authentic outdoor camping experience I would rate it 10 out of 10. For long term stays, I would much rather be in this kind of place than some artificial sardine can style "Motorcoach resort." We will definitely come back.
Graceland RV Park & Campground - Memphis, TN - March 8, 2015
Located directly adjacent to Graceland mansion, Graceland RV Park & Campground is a convenient place to say. It is highly rated and is a good place to stay when visiting Memphis. It's just a few miles from downtown to Beale Street and you can walk over to the mansion and take the tours. Full hookups and reasonably level gravel pads with nice trees and grass. A little bleak in winter but should be beauttiful in spring. I would rate it 8 out of 10.
Movietown RV Park - Jackson, MS - February 14, 2015
Well, after A+ Motel & RV Park, Movietown was a disappointment. But it was only an overnight. Gravel spots and roads, mostly not quite level. Some grass between spots for the dog. All pull thrus though and self check-in and payment... just leave a check in the obvernight box when leaving in the morning. And very cheap too. So it fit the bill fine for an overnight, but I would probably not stay here for extended stays. I would rate it 5 out of 10.
A+ Motel & RV Park - Lake Charles, LA - February 13, 2015
This is one of the finer RV parks we have stayed in. The name does not do it justice. I cannot speak for the motel, but the RV park is all concrete and grass... level pads, full hookups, cement roads, no gravel or asphalt. All pull thrus. Clean, neat, nice landscaped, perfect satellite reception from most spots. A nice pet area. Nice pool and amenities. All in a nice quiet location. Hard to beat this one. I would rate it 10 out of 10.
Pecan Park Rv Resort - San Marcos, TX - February 3-9, 2015
We spent a week here while visiting our old stomping grounds in here in Central Texas. We had checked it out a couple years ago and decide it was a pleasant and convenient place to stay while visiting the area. It's a nice quiet location along the San Marcos, River. Located in a grove of large Pecan trees, it is possible to find spots with good Satellite reception. The front spots have clear skies and our #414 along the back had a clear shot. Gravel pads, full hookups, and lots of squirrels as the name implies kept the dog entertained. However, we learned the hard way that rotten pecans are very bad for your dog's health. Mr. Eats-Anything wound up with severe pancreatitis after staying here which cost us more in vet bills than the park fees. I would rate it 8 out of 10 but stay away if your dog is a scavenger like ours..
Hacienda RV Resort - Las Cruces, NM - February 1, 2015
Clean neat and comfortable - nice level concrete pull thrus with full hookups... easy location for quick overnight on the way to Texas. We were going to stay at the local Walmart but it was so cold at night we decided to pay for a camp spot with electric. I would rate it 8 out of 10.
Lazydays KOA RV Campground - Tucson, AZ - January 24-31, 2015
We have stayed here in the past, before it became a K.O.A. Still the same wonderful RV park, it is very large and has a lot of small trees and shrubs... including orange trees. Very dog friendly with a large grassy dog park, it has excellent amenities including a very pleasant little restaurant on site... Florizona. Also onsite are a golf putting green, pool and hot tub, horseshoe pits and bocci ball, and nice paved roads through the large park for easy bicycling. The park is quiet and caters to lots of high end motor coaches so we were in good company. With the excellent view we had of the Santa Catalina Mountain range, we give it 9 out of 10 once again.
Blackrock RV Resort - Quartzsite, AZ - January 21, 2015
Blackrock RV Resort is actually located about 12 miles east of Quartzsite, AZ. We were pleased to find an available space for our big rig, because Quartzsite is pretty busy this time of year with the huge RV Show. Blackrock is just 5 miles off I-10 and is a well managed well run desert park... all level gravel pads and roads, very wide spacious spots with full hookups at a reasonable price. Nicely landscaped with lots of palms, mesquite trees and cactus. Like all gravel desert parks it is a bit dusty, especially when it is windy, but other than that I would rate it 8 out of 10.
Destiny Phoenix RV Resort - outside Phoenix, AZ - January 14-20, 2015
After coming from Indio, almost any place would be a a let down. Destiny Phoenix RV Resort is ok, though. 50 amp service and full hookups, of course, reasonably level asphalt pads with good elbow room in the premium sites. It was convenient for us to visit friends who have a winter home here in Goodyear, just west of Phoenix and convenient to shopping.... they have a nice outdoor pool. But not many other reasons to come back. We would rate it 7.5 out of 10 overall.... but deduct a few points if you are sensitive to the smell of cow manure from the nearby dairy farms.
Indian Waters RV Resort - Indio, CA - January 8-13, 2015
After we left Valencia Travel Village in Valencia just north of Los Angeles, CA, where we have stayed in the past, we drove out to the desert and stayed at Indian Waters RV Resort in Indio, not far from Palm Springs. We've never been fond of Palm Springs, but Indio is ok, if you like the desert and when staying at Indian Waters RV Resort, what's not to like. There are various levels of sites but even the less expensive spots are great and the top tier spots are terrific. Very wide roomy spots, with 50 amp service and full hookups, of course, extremely level near new concrete slabs, concrete car parking as well. Lots of grassy areas to walk the dog and a nice fenced dog park. Multiple swimming pools, hot tubs, sport courts, shuffleboard, etc etc... everything very well maintained. And daily activities to participate in if you wish. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We would rate it 9 out of 10 overall. Hard to beat.
Lost Hills RV Park - Lost Hills, CA - December 31, 2014
Located in Lost Hills, CA, an hour or so north of Bakerfield not far off I-5, this place makes a convenient winter layover on the way south to wait to cross the Grapevine into L.A. in mid day the next day. It's nothing fancy... all fine gravel, almost packed sand, but quiet and roomy pull throughs (no need to decouple the car) with 50 amp service and full hookups and a lot of small trees and a very nice fenced grass dog park. We would stay here again. We would rate it 7 out of 10 overall. Stayed here again in 2019... the park had changed hands and has deteriorated greatly. I would now rate it 3 out of 10 and would never stay here again.
Seven Feathers Casino RV Park - Canyonville, OR - December 30, 2014
Located in Canyonville, OR just north of Medford adjacent to I-5. This is a beautiful RV Park, one of the nicest we have ever stayed in... and the price is unbeatable... it's normally $20 per night, although the price during the holidays is full price and around double that, but Good Sam discounts apply. Lots of amenities and the casino and restaurants are right there as well. They have shiuttle service right from your RV space to the front door of the Casino. We would stay here again without hesitation. We would rate it 10 out of 10 overall.
Umatilla Marina and RV Park - Umatilla, OR - September 12, 2014
Located in Umatilla, OR right on the Coumbia River. Very clean nice park... large wide gravel pads and plenty of sunshine. We only overnighted here but it served us well... we had a wonderful view overlooking the Columbia. We would stay here again without hesitation. We would rate it 7 out of 10 overall.
Kahnderosa RV Park - Cataldo ID - August 25-29, 2014
Located in Cataldo, ID just north of Coumbia River just east of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Very clean nice small family run park... large wide spaces with concrete pads located right on the Coeur d'Alene River. It is also right on the wonderful Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes Bike Path, which is a real treat. We would stay here again without hesitation. We would rate it 7 out of 10 overall.
Columbia Sun RV Resort - Kennewick, WA - July 2, 2014
Located in Kennewick, WA just north of Coumbia River in Washington's Tricities area. Very clean nice park... large wide concrete pads and plenty of sunshine. We only overnighted here but it served us well... nice amenities including a pool, and so on. We would rate it 8 out of 10 overall.
Toutle River RV Resort - Castle Rock, WA - July 16-20, 2014
Located in Castle Rock, WA just an hour north of Portland Oregon at the apex of the Toutle and Cowlitz Rivers, the resort can accommodate over 800 RV's and is the largest RV resort in the Northwest. Our resort has the only private access to the confluence of the Toutle and Cowlitz River that offers access to the public (resort guests). The confluence of these two rivers is widely revered as one of the finest fishing holes in the state. Near Mt St Helens and Mt Rainier. We stayed here during the Tiffin Allegro Club Rally. Very clean nice park... but bracketed on one side by I-5 and the other by the Railroad... so not the quietest location. We would rate it 8 out of 10 overall.
Van Mall RV Park - Vancouver, WA - August 2013
Probably the nicest RV park in the metro Vancouver area, Van Mall RV Park is near I-205 in Orchards, about 6 miles north of the bridge over the Columbia. It is located in a reasonably quiet location near the Gher Road exit off I-205. Not much in the way of amenities, but the new section at the west end of the park offers spacious paved level pull thrus for large coaches. The park is dog friendly with a grassy dog walking area, doggie pickup bags and convenient waste receptacles. The price is very reasonable on a monthly rate with friendly staff. We are here for 2 months awaiting occupancy of our new Vancouver home and would stay here again in a similar situation. The marvelous forested Orchards Park for woodsy walks with the dog is located just up at the corner of NE 53rd and Fourth Plain Blvd. We would rate it 7 out of 10 overall.
Premier RV Resort - Eugene, OR - April 2013
Exceptionally nice RV Park just outside Eugene in Coburg, OR. It is located right on I-5 but it is a large park and on the back side the freeway is barely audible. Small swimming pool and laundry facilities... very dog friendly. Lovely landscaping and very reasonable prices. We would give it a 9 out of 10 and would recommend it to anyone passing through.
Durango RV Resort - Red Bluff, CA - April 2013
This is a beautiful RV Park just off I-5 along the Sacramento River in Red Bluff in Northern California. Spacious pull through sites with level concrete pads, lovely landscaping and very reasonable prices. We would give it a 9.5 out of 10 and definitely recommend it to anyone passing through.
Konocti Vista Casino RV Resort - Clear Lake, CA - April 2013
We are back here for another stay with our sailboat. Located in Lakeport, Lake County, California on the shores of Clear Lake. This is clean, reasonably priced RV park with full hookups, with a free boat launching ramp and free use of the marina (to all hotel and RV Park guests). Discounted price was just $18 a day, one of the most reasonably priced places we have ever stayed, given all they offer. The Casino and park are owned by the local Native American tribe and it is adjacent to some pretty low rent Native American housing, but the actual park, cafe, casino and marina are all top notch. The park has 74 spaces and was 90% empty while we were there. The level lot is all asphalt except for little xeriscaped islands scattered around with small trees in them. It is not the most scenic park, but very clean, well maintained and we would definitely stay here again. It is just a couple miles from the town of Lakeport, which has all the essentials including a couple supermarkets, restaurants, hardware store, and more. If you are driving in in a big rig, I would advise approaching the lake around the east side via the town of Nice... and avoiding the west side approach which has a very winding road with 8% grades. We would rate it 8 out of 10 overall.
Wine Country RV - Paso Robles, CA - March 2013
We stayed here before on the way down and stopped through again on way back north. This is a beautiful park, clean, generous spaces, and nice facilities, convenient to the hundreds of vineyards in Paso Robles. They have three price ranges for sites, and we have tried the premium and the standard and really were quite happy with the standard hard pack gravel sites located adjacent to the vineyard with full hookups and would not say the premium sites are worth the price difference unless you have to have a concrete pad. We would give it a 9.5 out of 10 and definitely recommend it to anyone passing through.
Sunrise RV Park - Santa Barbara, CA - March 2013
Like LA, land in Santa Barbara is at a premium and so there are few camping options especially near the downtown area. There is the El Capitán State Beach Campground in nearby Carpinteria which is pretty nice but there are no hookups, so we passed on that. We decided next time we might give the Lake Cachuma Rec Area a try which is about 16 miles or so up over San Marcos Pass from SB. It is really beautiful up there, but with a big rig like ours, we would definitely approach it from 101 thru Solvang. The only option in SB proper was Sunrise RV Park so we stayed there. It is clean and well managed with adequate gravel sites and full hookups, but very small and right on 101 so it's a bit noisy. But we were only here for the weekend so it was convenient and tolerable. We would give it about 6 out of 10.
Valencia Travel Village - Valencia (near Los Angeles), CA - March 2013
RV Parks for travellers are few and far between in the LA area. I suppose it is the price of land, that most have been converted into condos or strip malls... or have evolved into mobile home parks for low rent housing. Finding a place to park you RV for short term visits can be challenging. We found one in Van Nuys which is mostly transient housingm one in San Dimas, one in Acton and then this one in Valencia, up near Magic Mountain and Castaic Lake. Right near the intersection of Hwy 26 and I-5 it is conveniently located for getting back and forth into the city (30-40 minutes outside traffic hours) and there is concvenient shopping close by. The Park itself has a lot of long term residents, however they have a very nice circle at the back of park with spaces for 30 or so Motorhomes and travel trailers for short term stays. It is actually very nice, green with lots of grass and treets and a very pleasant place to spend a week at a very reasonable price. Nice amenities including two swimming pools, hot tub and faciilities. The air is also much better up near Valencia than it is in the city. Nestled in the foothills, we would give it 8 out of 10.
Thousand Trails Verde Valley Preserve - Sedona / Cottonwood, AZ - February 2013
We are not big fans of the Thousand Trails network of campgrounds; most are old, outdated and poorly maintained campgrounds, Many don't have full hookups in most of the spaces, and spaces are often very unlevel. They are, however, reasonable in price and often quite green and au naturel with spacious sites. In Sedona there is only one option right downtown, Rancho Sedona, but it is crowded and a bit expensive, so we opted to spend our week in the area outside of town in Cottonwood, about 15 minutes from downtown Sedona. This is one of nicer Thousand Trails parks we have seen and would recommend it, however, be prepared that cell reception and wifi is pretty limited down in the canyon... only certain parts of the park afford any reception at all. And like so many Thousand Trails, it is tricky to find a level enough spot such that the automatic air leveling can do its thing without augmentaton. But it is is quiet and scenic and we would give it a 7 out of 10 for that.
Lazydays RV Campground - Tucson, AZ - February 2013
This wonderful RV park is very large and has a lot of small trees and shrubs... including orange trees. Very dog friendly with excellent amenities including a very pleasant little restaurant on site... Florizona. Also onsite are a golf putting green, pool and hot tub, horsehoe pits and bocci ball, and nice paved roads through the large park for easy bicycling. The park is quiet and caters to lots of high end motor coaches so we were in good company. With the excellent view we had of the Santa Catalina Mountain range, we give it 9 out of 10.
Desert’s Edge RV - Phoenix, AZ - February 2013
We spent 10 days here and enjoyed it very much. Clean, well run park... lots of pull throughs with full hookups... excellent amenities and probably the greenest park in the Phoenix area with lots of nice shrubs and trees. Freeway convenient yet relatively quiet, we got a lovely back corner spot. Met some nice fellow Coach owners here. Attended a happy hour as well. Only downside is proximity to the very busy small planes airport, so there is a lot of airplane noise in the day time hours. The park is adjacent to some open land so there is an abundance of wildlife in the area including Coyotes... we never saw any but definitely heard them nearby outside the park. Definitely do not want to let thwwe pets run free here. Given that this is the desert, we give it 8.5 out of 10 based on the options available.
Holiday Palms RV Park - Quartzsite, AZ - January 2013
We were attending the huge annual RV Rally in Quartzsite, AZ. Tens of thousands of RV's show up at this event and many many people are 'boondocking' or drycamping, parking in the desert on BLM land which costs nothing. Of course there are no services, so you have to run your generator a lot or have excellent solar battery support, and use water very conservatively. While that may be doable, the dusty filthy conditions are not... at least not for us. I have no interest in driving my expensive custom coach thru the rough desert and living in blowing dust and dirt for days on end. No thanks. There are plenty of RV Parks in Quartzsite, however, many of them are rather low end places, tightly packed in, and not much better than dry camping in the desert. We chose one of the best parks in the area, Holiday Palms RV Park, which is very nice. Wide, level, packed gravel sites with nice wide newly paved palm tree lined roads and excellent facilities, and very friendly and helpful staff, all at a reasonable price. Many high end coaches here. We would stay here again... and while not the kind of park we really enjoy staying in, given that this is the desert, we give it 8.5 out of 10 based on the options available.
Palm Springs Oasis RV Resort - Cathedral City, CA - January 2013
Part of the large RV-on-the go network of RV resorts, Palm Springs Oasis RV Resort is located just outside Rancho Mirage in the Palm Springs area. There are no shortage of RV parks in Palm Springs... but many of them are exclusive and expensive while many others are filled with long term transients and kind of run down. It was difficult to find a reasonably priced resort in the area that catered to short term visitors. Since we were only staying one night while we had dinner with friends in the area, we were not looking for much in the way of amenitiies, just a convenient place to park the rig for the right and Palm Springs Oasis RV fit the bill. Paved level pads and roads, convenient access and friendly staff make it a reasonable choice for RV'ers passing through. Our spot backed up on a busy boulevard and so was a bit noisy, but we had had a long drive down from Paso Robles and so we slept thru it. We give it 6 out of 10.
Maple Leaf RV Resort - Morgan Hill, CA - January 2013
This is a very large park with several hundred spaces, pretty tightly packed in, and fairly crowded, though we were able to just show up without reservations at this time of year, a major point in their favor. All sites featured level concrete pads with full hook-ups at all sites, many with pull through access, situated along Highway 101 south of San Jose, CA. Oddly enough there are very few options around San Jose. Seems that with the economy being what it is, most of what there is caters to long term residents and are pretty full and many seem pretty run down. We would have preferred to stay closer in to the city for visiting purposes, but there wasn't much to choose from. A litttle closer in there was one other option, Coyote Valley RV Resort, but it had 50% higher rates with not much more to offer, so we opted for Maple Leaf. Maple Leaf is far enough south of the city to be a little less crowded than may of the parks closer in, but still many of the residents are long term and there are many park models, here. Maple Leaf is well run, with good amenities, including a wash station for cars and RV's. Because of the narrow spaces and large concentration of long term residents we would normally rate it perhaps 6 out of 10 overall, but given the few options in the area, we were very glad to stay here and will return when we come back in the spring... and we give it 8.5 out of 10 for this reason.
Parkway RV Resort - Orland, CA - January 2013
This is a well run, nicely laid out RV park with concrete pads accommodating large rigs with full hook-ups at all sites, many with pull through access, situated in a quiet location not too far from I-5 south of Redding, CA. There was lots of room between spaces and at this time of year the park was only about 25% occupied so there was lots of room. Very pleasant environment for walking the dogs. We only stayed one night as we were just passing through. We would have opted to just stay at the Walmart in Redding but the weather was very cold and we would have had to run the genrator most of the nighjt to keep the coach warm, so we opted to stay at a the Parkway, and it turned out to be an excellent choice on short notice. We would rate it 8 out of 10 overall.
River Bend Resort - Harrisburg, OR - December 2012
This is a well run, nicely laid out RV park with 95 concrete pads with full hook-ups at all sites, many with pull through, situated along the Willamette River just north of Eugene, Oregon. Harrisburg is just north of Junction City, Oregon, home to many of the largest RV repair facilities in the northwest, and River Bend Resort represents the perfect spot to stay in an around having your rig serviced. We would rate it 7 out of 10 overall.
Fairview RV Park - Portland, OR - November 2012
Fairview RV Park makes an ideal place to stay when visiting Portland Oregon. Located just 8 miles east of downtown Portland, you will enjoy the peaceful setting and the lovely landscaping found throughout the park. You'll be able to wander amid tall evergreens and along the babbling brook. Full hookups, flat paved spaces with plenty of room to spread out, and a lovely quiet location, we would rate it 8.5 out of 10 overall.
Waldport/Newport KOA - Waldport, OR - September 2012
This quiet little KOA campground in Waldport Oregon sits above picturesque Alsea Bay located in the heart of the beautiful Oregon Coast! Lots to do in the area: hike a rocky coastline, discover starfish in a tide pool, or just take a walk on a quiet, sandy beach, Tour a lighthouse or the Rogue Brewery. Visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Seal Rock or the Sea Lion Caves. Buy fresh-caught fish on the "Historic Bayfront" in Newport. The park is a little tight for big rigs, but the management offers a guide in a golf cart to lead you in and out of your site. We managed it with our 43' rig, and once in place, the gravel site was comfortable and level, but definitely several notches below the big pull through paved sites we prefer. We would rate it 6 out of 10 overall, with 8 out of 10 for location.
Canyon Farms RV Park - Okanagan Lake/Kelowna B.C. - August 2012
This charming park run by Lesley Reid and her husband sits well outside downtown, about 15 minutes from the lake front beaches and esplanade. It is a clean quiet well-managed small park with space for about 10 RVs, a perfect spot from which to visit Kelowna and environs. The price was $300 for the week, a little expensive compared to the rest of our summer, but Kelowna is an expensive resort town. Our hosts are very personable people and it's obvious this is not just a business for them but a labor of love. There's a clean little laundry on site, they were very accommodating about parking our boat trailer, and their internet was very quick most of the time, good for us since our Verizon Mifi is not available in Canada. We would rate it 9 out of 10 overall.
Flathead Lake Resort - Flathead Lake/Polson, MT - July 2012
When we bailed from Big Sky RV Park (below), we looked around and decided to come here. They call themselves Flathead Lake RV Condos, where many people have bought their own space in a condominium arrangement. And, like condos, they can be rented out when not in use by the owner. The place boasts nice facilities, with full hookups, and its own docks and marina on the Flathead River where it flows into gorgeous Flathead Lake. Ideal for power boats, but not for sailboats because of the low bridge across the river into Polson. The price was right at $525/mo, less than half the price of the similar spot but more high end place just up the road, Polson Motor Coach Resort. Flathead Lake Resort is completely level with asphalt roads and RV spaces, generously spaced and each with its own xeriscaped yard, many with small trees, and the end spots have nice small lawns as well. Cell phone reception is great as was our Verizon wifi... 3G only, but very decent nonetheless. Like the majority of RV parks, their "high speed" wifi was intermittent during our stay. We would rate it 8 out of 10 overall.
Big Sky RV Park - Flathead Lake/Rollins, MT - July 2012
This very scenic park along Highway 93 offers a nice view of gorgeous Flathead Lake. The park is heavily treed and green with level spaces and gravel roads. They offer full hookups and public restrooms and laundry, but maintenance was neglected and the place is a bit run down. If you are fully self contained though, and don't mind the remote location, it's a nice place to stay a few nights, and they have their own small marina, but here again it was a bit rugged. Their wireless internet is acceptable, but don't expect any cell phone reception here, however. Overall, the park was just too remote for our needs, a good 20 minutes drive to any kind of grocery shopping or restaurants. And the location along busy Highway 93, a 70-mph highway, was a bit noisy for our tastes. We stayed only two nights and decided to move down to the town of Polson on the south shore of Flathead Lake. We would rate it 5 out of 10 overall. NOTE: In 2015, it is now under new management.
Blackwell Island RV Resort - Lake Coeur d'Alene, ID - June 2012
Hands down the best RV Park in Coeur d'Alene, it is located along the Spokane River right at the confluence of beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene. We stayed here in 2011 in our truck camper as well. Full hookups, reasonably generous gravel spaces with small trees, and asphalt roads, the price is quite reasonable with monthly rates of just $500 except during peak season of July and August when only nightly rates are available. The place is very big rig friendly and also has nice clean public restrooms and showers and laundry. Propane is also available. There is a nice riverfront beach with a swim are and boat docks, and lots of trees around the perimeter. We kept our sailboat just next door at Murphy's Marina for the month. You won't find many RV parks with a higher concentration of high end mega coaches... Prevost, Newmar, Country Coach, Monaco, etc. Cell and Verizon 4G availability were excellent. Park wifi is ok except at peak hours. We would rate it 9 out of 10 overall.
Fernridge Shores - Community, RV Park & Marina - Fernridge Lake, OR - May 2012
OK, we admit it, we just love this place! Located just outside the small town of Veneta, it is about 12 miles west of Eugene, OR. We stayed here in the summer of 2011 in our truck camper and found it a very pleasant place to stay. So we returned with the Windseeker. It is more of a retirement community with mostly semi permanent residents. They have full hookups with perhaps a dozen sites available for short term RV'ers by the night, week or month. It's a very quiet location, and nearby Veneta has shopping, restauarants, and more. Generous spaces, many with lake views, are mostly level gravel with gravel roads and lots of trees, and each space has a small wood storage shed which is handy. They have a great little marina on the lake and a nice little waterfront park which is very pet friendly. Monthly rates are just $425. Cell and Verizon 4G availability were pretty good, but no park wifi at all. We would rate it 7 out of 10 overall.
Konocti Vista Casino RV Resort - Clear Lake, CA - October 2011
If you are driving in in a big rig, I would advise approach the Lake around the east side via the town of Nice... and avoiding the west side approach which has a very winding road with 8% grades. We would rate it 8 out of 10 overall.
Edgewater RV Park - Clear Lake, CA - October 2011
This was the first place we pulled into. when we arrived at Clear Lake. It looks and sounds better on their web site than it is. The park is located in the little town of Kelseyville on the southeast shore of Clear Lake at Soda Bay in Northern California. They have full hookups available and the park is nicely wooded, but not particularly big rig friendly. The sites are all dirt, too close together for our tastes, and not particularly level. There are a lot of full time transient type residents. The park has its own little lakefront park and boat launch but it was not anything we could use for our sailboat. The location is quite remote and a pretty fair drive from any sizeable town with shopping and dining options. One night here was all we could tolerate and we moved on. We would rate it 5 out of 10 overall, at least for big rigs.
Richardson Park Campground - Lane County, OR - August 2011
This is a large well maintained county park with a very nice, quiet campground and marina on Fernridge Lake, 12 miles east of Eugene. It has 30 amp electric and water with a dump station for users, and nice clean bathrooms and showers. The park is heavily wooded and hosts a lot of tent campers as well as RV'ers. You have to make separate arrangements for the adjacent marina which has its own first class boat launch. Like so many state and county campgrounds, there is a stay limit of 14 days and you must be gone for 30 days before you can come back. Don't try making two sets of reservations under different names... it won't work. But for up to a two week stay, if you don't mind the lack of sewer hookups, we would rate it 9 out of 10 overall.
